At TDC, sustainability isn’t a side initiative—it’s built into how we move. Our most recent SmartWay Performance Ranking is a reflection of that commitment. We’re proud to share that our fleet earned a Rank 3 in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay program.
What Is the SmartWay Ranking?
SmartWay evaluates carriers on their carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions in grams per mile (g/m). This metric is one of the clearest indicators of environmental performance in freight. Carriers are ranked from 1 to 5, with:
• Rank 1 being the lowest emissions (best)
• Rank 5 being the highest emissions (needs improvement)
Our Rank 3 places TDC solidly in the middle of the performance range—showing that we’re operating with a balanced level of efficiency and emissions while identifying areas for future improvement.
How We Got Here
• Smarter Routes: We’ve optimized our route planning to reduce idling and total mileage.
• Fleet Upgrades: We’ve invested in newer, fuel-efficient vehicles that meet modern emission standards.
• Driver Coaching: Our drivers are trained on fuel-saving habits like smooth acceleration and idle reduction.
What’s Next
A Rank 3 isn’t the finish line—it’s a benchmark. We’re using this as motivation to climb the ranks by:
• Expanding our alternative fuel vehicle program
• Leveraging real-time telematics for even greater fuel efficiency
• Collaborating with shippers focused on sustainable supply chain practices
Why It Matters
As supply chains grow more connected and conscious, being a SmartWay partner allows us to demonstrate our environmental performance with real data. It’s one more way we show up for our partners, communities, and the planet.
Let’s keep moving toward a cleaner, more efficient future—one mile at a time.
